The Center for Nanoscale Materials
was formally created on January 2003, thanks to
a $6M Grant for five years from the NASA-URC program.
The Center includes ten professors from the Chemistry
and Physics Departments. The research topics of
the Center are: Nanoscale Dielectrics for Super
Capacitors, Nanostructured Materials for Flat
Panel Displays and Nanoscale Materials for Regenerative
Power Systems.
Through the CNM, graduate and
Undergraduate students are being trained in Nanotechnology
concepts, tolls and trends. Moreover, students
and teachers from local high schools are introduced
to the topic throughout workshops and research.
The Center has a Nanoscopy Facilty for the visualization
of nanoscale materials using high resolution electron
microscopes. This Facility is the first of its
kind in Puerto Rico. Also, the CNM collaborates
with NASA Centers and High Tech Companies.
